Wellink Trust commissions a Literature Review Report on Peer Services and Alternative Models of Acute Mental Health Services

This review summarises effective support characteristics and models in alternative mental health service delivery in relation to non-acute outpatient and acute inpatient care. It comments on characteristics (of ‘good’ peer support; ‘good’ peer models; alternative models; working relationships between clinicians and peers; ‘good’ client engagement, ‘other’ support), training and professional development (of peer support workers and others); monitoring and evaluation activities (what’s being done, how’s it being done, what has this monitoring/evaluation revealed, what are useful monitoring/evaluation approaches) and identifies gaps and issues relevant to these areas.

LETS GET TALKING 2010 - CONSULTATION PROCESS!

Recently we have undergone a consultation process for an exciting new resource that is being developed within Wellink.

We really wanted to make this resource solid, and so over the past month we have been getting people together and talking about it.

We have held two focus groups: A youth focus group – for people who are, or have previously been, in King Street, and an open focus group – for some community organisations.

Both focus groups gave us awesome information that we are looking at how we can implement into the resource.

Sadly, we can’t show you the resource just yet as it is about 70% complete. But look out for an exciting new skills focused, strengths-based resource coming out soon!

Building Bridges Update…

What we have below is the result of a workshop that was held at the Building Bridges Conference 2010.

The workshop was run by Kirsten Philipsen and Josh Palmer and 16 other people who came along. The model gives us a visual picture of how someone may change a service to fill a gap in the community.

The steps give examples of what may be useful to do, or think about, at each stage of the evolution.

Take a look and think what might be good in our communities that we don’t already have! If you have any questions about this model please e-mail Josh at joshuap@wellink.org.nz, or if would like a larger one printed—please contact Ami Brown at Willis Street 801 8500.

The Soul Project CD Release

Wellink’s very own Jenn Shelton created this compilation album project as a way of decreasing stigma and discrimination around mental illness. In 2008 she was successful in gaining a NZ Mental Health Media Grant, supported by the Ministry of Health's Like Minds, Like Mine program and the Mental Health Foundation.

The SOUL Project (Sound Of Us Living) Album will be launched in Mental Health Awareness Week (5th – 11th October 2009). If you would like to purchase the album or would like more information on the launch, please email sound.of.us.living@gmail.com
